Issue #96  (One-on-one with Your Manager) 12/14/20

Over the last 6 months or so I've collected a bunch of "Ask Hacker News" discussions related to work, productivity, and so forth. I thought I would list them here by title so you can choose which ones you'd like to check out:

Hacker News

Most of those links are from early during the lockdowns when remote work started to take off, so some of those suggestions might have changed since then, depending on the circumstances.

Now on to this week's hand-picked productivity links!

Tools & Apps

Vowel - A video conferencing tool that makes meetings better. Plan, host, transcribe, search, and share your meetings.

Bookmax - Online bookmarks manager. In addition to organizing bookmarks this also includes contacts, a newsfeed, memos, lists, and more.

Tailored Notion - Chrome extension to improve the look of Notion when you use it directly from the browser (Firefox extension coming soon).

SeeLink - The easiest way to share and collaborate on links with teammates or colleagues. Create a "board", add links to it, share via a single URL.

Shift - A workstation in the form of a desktop app for streamlining your accounts, apps, and workflows.

Preflect - A microsurvey and navigation tool that helps visitors stay engaged on your website. Online stores and blogs use Preflect to guide their visitors to relevant pages and increase conversion rates.   promoted

Articles & Resources

Why Time Management Is Ruining Our Lives - Oliver Burkeman makes the case that all of our efforts to be more productive backfire – and only make us feel even busier and more stressed.

Making the Most of Your One-On-One With Your Manager or Other Leadership - As many offices go fully remote, learning how to approach key meetings with your manager can pay big dividends.

How to Make Your Cheap Office Chair More Comfortable - A few simple but practical suggestions for a better seating experience while working.

Why Procrastinators Procrastinate - 2013 article by Tim Urban with a link to a second part and a TED talk by the same author.

Rejections - This seems to be a trend of late, articles outlining all the times the author was turned down after a job interview. This includes interviews with Amazon, IBM, and Uber, among many others.
