Issue #93  (Fight the Tyranny of the Urgent) 11/23/20

There's no denying that good health leads to being more productive. One of the factors in better health is how much time we spend being sedentary (i.e. sitting for long periods of time with little to no exercise). To give you a little incentive in this area, here are some details from a group of studies published in 2013. This is a huge analysis that involved 794,577 people. Those with the highest sedentary time compared to the lowest had the following results:

  • 112% increase in diabetes
  • 147% increase in cardiovascular events
  • 90% increase in the risk of cardiovascular mortality
  • 49% increase in the risk of all-cause mortality

I'm sure you've heard of studies like this before, and there are likely others that have been published since then (e.g. see the "Similar Articles" on that page). I just happen to stumble on that one in the past week.
