Issue #5  (Working 32 Hours Per Week) 03/18/19

Twitter thread from a few weeks back from Jeremy Burge is giving us even more reason to not use Facebook. It's a long thread, but worth it if you're concerned about this sort of thing.

TL;DR is found in one of the later tweets:

"Login-with-Phone-Number is the new Login-with-Facebook. Easy to track, shared between services, it's the key to invisible mesh of your data. Don't do it."

But if you want to avoid using your phone number for 2-factor auth, this post might help. Assuming that still works, of course.

Now on to this week's hand-picked productivity links!

Tools & Apps

Emaildrop - A free disposable email provider that generates an address on the website or even via their GraphQL API.

The Plain Contract - An easy to customize template for a freelance contract.

JournalBook - A private, offline-first personal journal. Your notes are only stored on your device, never sent to a server.

Textstandup - Progress communication app for teams for use during daily meetings (i.e. stand-ups).

MiDrive - A private cloud storage solution that brings the ease and utility of Dropbox to Amazon S3.

Articles & Resources

VSCode Settings and Extensions for Faster JavaScript Development - Tilo Mitra switched from Sublime to VSCode two years ago and he spends about 5-6 hours a day in his text editor, so there might be some good suggestions in here if you use VSCode.

Writing things down (how to know what to do next) - If uncertainty and a variety of options are causing you distress, this advice might help.

What I Learned from Working 32 Hours a Week - I see articles like this more and more. I think everyone should consider how they can work fewer hours and have a better work/life balance.

This Is The Most Powerful Way To Make Your Life Fantastic - 1600 people took a 30-day break from optional technologies and their lives became happier and more productive.
