If you run your own business and aspire to a certain level of growth, you'll want to check out a video from Big Think called 6 key abilities of strategic thinkers. It's a short video, just 7 minutes, presented by Michael D. Watkins, who is a professor of leadership at IMD Business School.

He says he's often asked: Are great strategic thinkers born, or are they made? His answer to that is "yes" (which seems nonsensical but is accurate).

The 6 disciplines of strategic thinking, from Big Think

He explains this by comparing strategic thinkers to an elite marathon runner. To some degree, yes, the runner is born with certain physical traits that are conducive to running well. But that doesn't mean successful running doesn't require hard work.

So it involves, as he says, nature, nurture, and experience. He briefly breaks down all the abilities. I'd personally love to attend a course taught by Michael, as he's a good communicator. This is a great little video that I think anyone in a leadership role will enjoy and benefit from.

Now on to this week's hand-picked productivity links!
