A few months back a Hacker News reader asked about problems with 'poor memory and executive function' and how to deal with this. This particular paragraph definitely made me feel for the person and I could even sympathize a little:

"I've had a wealth of experiences, both good and bad, but few have found their way into my mental models of how the world works, and so I keep making the same mistakes or am unable to effectively navigate my way to a specific goal."

If we go by online forums and social media, we'd probably assume this is a rare disorder. I'm guessing it's common in many more people than we think. I mean, how many people in the general public do you think are able to turn their life experiences into mental models for productive and successful future use?

Brain Function

There is quite a bit of discussion, including a link to an interesting course-based website on the very topic the user was asking about. There's also a lot of discussion of going to therapy, ADHD, etc., which you'll have to take with a grain of salt.

It's also interesting that the user, in response to another user's comment, reveals that they suffer from complex PTSD, which may be related to the problem in the first place.

It's a pretty complex topic, and something I don't know a lot about, so I don't have any opinions but it's a subject that probably doesn't get discussed enough.

Now on to this week's hand-picked productivity links!
