Issue #18  (Why Books Don't Work) 06/17/19

The story quoted in the subject line of this email (final link below) isn't necessarily one that you'll learn a ton of productivity lessons from. Maybe the main underlying principle that stands out is that you should always ask for what you're worth.

And yes, the 'static HTML page' that the author claims to have built was absolutely worth what he charged, based on the actual effort and hours put in.

Now on to this week's hand-picked productivity links!

Tools & Apps

WBO - Online collaborative whiteboard. To collaborate on a drawing in real time with someone, just send them the page's URL.

Precis - A minimal note taking web-app built on GitHub Pages.

SingleFileZ - Chrome and Firefox extension that allows you to save web pages as self-extracting HTML/ZIP hybrid files.

LandingPagr - A free editing tool to write your landing page copy on.

Hawkeye Access - iOS app that lets you use eye and face movements to control your device hands-free. For people with motor impairments, this makes controlling the device much easier.

Articles & Resources

Why books don’t work - Puts forth the theory that books are bad at conveying knowledge, and readers mostly don’t realize this.

It’s time to switch to a four-day working week, say these two Davos experts - Yet another argument that reduced work hours leads to better focus.

Is remote work BS? - Discussion of a recent tweet by venture capitalist Arianna Simpson on the topic of remote work and why we should focus more on the challenges and pitfalls it presents.

10 obvious lessons I learned on my path from a designer to product executive - Sid Yadav writes down things he wish he knew before he began this career transition.

I charged $18,000 for a Static HTML Page ... and got away with it - Now that's productive.
