Tech writer and self-taught web developer Yuri Lee shared a thread on Twitter discussing how she went from "0 to 70k followers" in 6 months.

The thread isn't too lengthy and it's very good (with a couple of curse words, in case that bothers you). I don't personally believe the tips will work for everyone (i.e. "your mileage may vary", as they say), but she provides some solid suggestions that are more or less sourced around helping others, being your self, and sharing what you learn.

Yuri Lee on Gaining Twitter Followers

I have to admit, I do tend to be a bit insecure myself about sharing new tidbits of information and that might hold me back a bit. Sometimes I wonder, Is this info incorrect? Is it going to make me sound like a n00b? I generally save most of the stuff I'm learning for blog posts rather than social media posts, but there's lots that I want to blog about that I don't — and it's often for the reasons I just mentioned.

So take Yuri's advice and be open to sharing stuff and engaging in friendly conversations, even if it means you might reveal that you don't know as much as people may have thought. As she points out, it will likely pay off in the long run.

Now on to this week's hand-picked productivity links!

Tools & Apps

Taiga — A project management tool for multi-functional agile teams that has a rich feature set and an intuitive user interface.

Jot & Paste — Windows or Mac app that lets you quickly save and paste text snippets using a few simple keyboard shortcuts, similar to a text expander app.

Padloc — A beautiful and intuitive password manager available for desktop, mobile, or as a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox.

Privnote — Online app to send notes that will self-destruct after they're read by the recipient.

Tweaks for Twitter — Browser extension that improves the Twitter UI by removing things like promoted tweets, messages drawer, trends, who to follow
topics to follow, etc.

Nochart — Turn your Notion database into actionable insights by creating interactive and customizable Notion charts.

Bytes: Your Favourite JavaScript Newsletter — I subscribe to a lot of newsletters, but this is definitely one I look forward to. Entertaining with lots of cool and useful coding tidbits and tools.    sponsor

Articles & Resources

Employees.fyi — Online interactive resource that lets you easily compare U.S. workforce demographic data across companies and against industry reference data.

Is It Time to Start Scaling Yourself? — Advice on getting more done from the Patreon blog for those who work for themselves and may not have the ability or resources to outsource or delegate.

What are the Characteristics of an Ideal Workspace? — The author makes a good point that the transition to working from home may lead us to be in a state of perpetually thinking our home office is only temporary, which likely isn't true.

Tech Industry’s ‘Three-Day Work Week’ May Change the Future of the Office Forever — Bit of a misleading title because this is more about 3 days in the office and 2 days at home, so technically still a 5-day workweek.

The Problem With Note-Taking — A breakdown of the philosophy behind note-taking. I don't necessarily think this is a complete argument against note-taking, but I like the perspective in the piece.

Help! Brain Overload — A discussion of neuroergonomics (the application of neuroscience to ergonomics), which helps to relieve cognitive load when we start to become too weighed down mentally.

Find, Visualize and Apply the Hidden Gems in Your Spam Inbox — Checkmate is the first tool ever built to sort, visualize and apply the deals from your spam inbox while you shop, finding hidden gems and saving early users an average of $40 per checkout. It’s completely free! Try Checkmate today!    sponsor
