Issue #147  (The Case For Slacking Off At Work) 12/06/21

A great short video from Elizabeth Filips, who I just discovered, talking about why Productivity YouTube is brainwashing you. Certainly a click-baity title, but that's ok, this one has substance and some good rants about the 'better productivity' scene on YouTube and, by extension, elsewhere (including here!).

Elizabeth Filips

She's a bit of a fast talker, so you can use the playback speed option to slow it down a bit if you like.

I like that she helps you understand that many productivity tips and suggestions don't take into consideration each individual's needs and circumstances. Certain tips aren't easy for everyone to make use of and she also considers the fact that some suggestions are more painful and self-involved than we sometimes like to admit.

Now on to this week's hand-picked productivity links!

Tools & Apps

Reverse Dictionary - Exactly what the title says (use the "English" tab). Type in a concept and this site works somewhat like a thesaurus, but takes a description instead of simply a word.

AppFlowy - An open-source alternative to Notion and you are in charge of your data and customizations.

AnyMirror - Cross-platform screen mirroring app to mirror Android and iOS screens, audio, cameras, and microphones to a computer.

Linkish - Chrome extension. A beautiful yet functional way of organizing and viewing links, with features for bookmarking, URL shortening, and highlighting parts of pages.

Texts - A single inbox all major messaging platforms including iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, FB Messenger, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, and more.

The New Tab Page You'll Actually Use - Replace your web browser’s new tab page with a minimal list of links, grouped and sorted how you like. A Fine Start is for fans of minimalism and nice typography.   sponsored
